The latest audit by Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu indicates that the Talanta Sports City Stadium project construction cost ballooned by KSh10.85 billion over the originally approved funding — rising from KSh35 billion to KSh45.85 billion. The audit found the contract was awarded through direct procurement without the legally required Attorney-General clearance and flagged procurement irregularities and unsupported price variations. It also warns of penalties for late payments and higher interest costs that could burden taxpayers.
